Los Angeles and California Accidents Involving Left Hand Turns

One of the most common auto or motorcycle accident scenarios is the left hand turn. (i.e. you are going straight through an intersection on a green or yellow light, someone decides to make a "quick left" in front of you, they mis-judge the distance between your vehicle and theirs and a collision occurs). Most often, under California Law, the driver making the left hand turn would be deemed primarily at fault in this type of a scenario. The California Motor Vehicle Code sections 22100-22113 govern the rights and responsibiilties of drivers intending to make any turn on a roadway, including left hand turns. The person turning left needs to slow down, approach as far to the left of the roadway as practicable, signal and not make the turn until he or she can do so with enough distance between their vehicle and oncoming traffic to avoid a collision.

If you are someone you know has been the victim of a person making a left hand turn in front of them, you should consult a Los Angeles Accident and Injury attorney.
